Fabulous antique French 27pc table knife & serving implement or utensil set with ornate likely .800 to sterling silver collars, genuine horn handles and including meat carving set with gigot, salad serving pair, cake or pie server, rare pele a tarte and more, all held in an oak 2-layer storage box or chest! The pieces all fit in the chest as near perfect as can be but we can't be certain that it's original (though my guess is that it is). Unfortunately, there are six missing smaller dessert or entremet sized knives but all twelve of the larger dinner sized knives are there, as are all of those serving pieces. Ornate acanthus & garland accented sterling silver collars on all pieces, the handles are in solid genuine horn with a lovely grain pattern. There are a few places where the silver bears hallmarks, the tiny French boar's head hallmark normally designating .800 or better silver content and silversmith marks that read "P.M." though I've not been able to find reference to them so far. I'll keep searching and add if I'm successful. All blades, etc. are marked "Paris", pre-stainless steel so there may be a bit of age tarnish or corrosion. A wonderful set, add some fine French sterling silver flatware and you have a lovely table setting AND with all of those sought after serving pieces!
Very good condition. As noted, the blades are all pre-stainless steel so there will be some age tarnish and/or corrosion spots but, as you can see, they're all really in wonderful condition. I see no splits in any of the horn handles, no notable damage or repairs. Also, as noted, there are only six of the smaller knives remaining. The oak chest is in fine condition, missing the key but has all of the original hardware, it also has a split in the lid along the middle of the right side and also a bit of separation when closed. I'll see if any of our extra keys work. See pictures for all measurements.
