We're thinking itâs from an opulent vanity set or compendium originally - a very awesome one that would have been housed with other vanity related items in a fitted chest like we've offered in the past. Though possibly for cologne in a barberâs shop, perhaps - a very good one. Heavy sterling silver with remnants of vermeil, either from accenting or the entire piece was once draped in 18k gold (which was most commonly used in French vermeil). The separate pieces marked with the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means it's in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). There are silversmith marks but I've not been able to find reference to a maker yet. I'll do some more looking and add if I find them. An exquisite piece though and quite unique! It could even be used for powdered sugar to dust your fresh fruit or pastries??
Very good condition. I see no dents damage or repairs to note. As you can see in the images, there are hints of gold plating or 'vermeil' and we're not sure if they were accents or if the piece was originally entirely in vermeil with most lost over the years. In any event, the hint of gold is gorgeous and the piece is, overall, in fabulous shape. See pictures for weight and measurements.
