Whether hung decoratively, or a shelf top added to use as wall shelves, these are gorgeous. They're a matching pair of heavy old forest growth oak, carved with acanthus and scrolling a bit to the Corinthian aesthetic. I'm sure they were once installed in a home atop faux pillars, flanking a doorway or adorning a bookcase. I found them in France, and they're 12" tall and 10 3/4" wide, 2" in depth. My plan was to hang them with an antique platter hanging above, but here they still are. Ready for your project now. I've used these as the corbel at window-sides with an oak shelf spanning the length of the window, and displayed antique plates above the window as a unique valance of sorts. These would be perfect for that!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, I don't see any broken or chipped bits, and they're not cracked from age. Very heavy solid old oak. You can see from rear, a wood worm hole or two, but nothing pithy at all and those have not been active for more than a century. Ready to hang.
