Superb antique frame, c.1830-50, housing a wonderfully playful and whimsical painting, art work. Dates c.1850-70, in earlier frame. THE ARTIST: Jules RENARD dit DRANER (1833-1926) was born in Liege. He illustrated A Jean DRAULT, Adrien HUARD. He collaborated with numerous illustrated newspapers: "l" The cCaricature "," The Pompom "," The Little Ellustrated Newspaper ", and etc. . THE DRAWING: "Carnivalesque types, Admiral Switzerland, costume of Gil Sere" in Lithography enhanced with watercolor and gouache. Sheet pasted on a cardboard. F Original print from the mid-19th century. Stains, wear part of the charm and condition as you see it. Signed on the original stone lithography drawn print, and again oversigned and title noted in ink and pen by the artist.
Measurements: hand colored stone litho work of art: 12.5" x 10.5". Frame is 16.5" x 15" and is 1.25" in depth, very nicely preserved. The art work is matted and under glazing, glass, which is in fine order. This one is hanging right now in my dining room. LOVE this one!
