Antique hand carved wood crucifix and holy font, a lamb at rest at the base of the cross. Twenty-five years or so ago, I saw my first one of these in a Dallas antiques shop. That one was tagged $895. I was kind of shocked, and remain so. Over the years we've had and sold 5-6 of these and I'd never try to get that price. I guess that's part of why a lot of our customers are dealers. But I digress. This is a c.1880-1915 carved stand, lovely old thing. The lamb represents Christ, of course. The cross is draped with vines, the setting serene. The holy font rests there in front of the lamb.
Very good to excellent, not even the ears on this little resting lamb are snubbed. Lovely, and it's surprisingly unscathed, well treasured over time. A leaf tip nipped perhaps, but nothing else. NOTE: Please, if you buy one of these, don't even just put water into the font without a little glass or other type of cup. Water will warp and crack wood.
