Fabulous 19th century hand carved Swiss pocket watch stand, 11" tall, to turn a watch into a mantel or bedside clock when at home. The carving is masterful, such detail. The little robed fox and perfect anatomical specimen of hen and chick he invites into his castle are from fables. Castle turrets are wonderful, too, as is the elevated stand or base. Superb desktop or shelf top item, bookshelf accent, or, as it was originally, mantel display for your favorite pocket watch. All measurements are noted on images.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I see no damage at all to the main forms, figures, and a single rim chip on the round frame into which a pocket watch is meant to rest. It would have had a velvet liner there in that recess, I'm sure. Will leave it to the next owner to decide on whether to replace and how. Also, whatever small hook was there in that small hole above the circle, to hold the bale of the watch will need a little peg replacement. Otherwise, it's just magnificent, front, sides and back. Just in from France not long ago.
