We love these little hidden bars! Particularly the old ones made with c.1700-1800 French leather bound books, hollowed out like this one. You can see the pages on the sides, and the old leather book covers are rich with age and appeal. Some of these are larger. The small ones are so fun set at table by your favorite reading chair with perhaps a pair of antique reading specs up top with a gorgeous old case. No one will suspect it's not a real stack of books until you open and reveal. On this set, measurements noted on photos, the small decanter is attended by 4 cordials (1 is a replacement but matches). The box has a Thorens music box inside, but it might be stuck and isn't playing. We can't access it well to try to release the mechanism, which is likely just overwound. You might wish to have that done. We'll leave it as it is.
Very good for age and type, with real books used at all levels. Some newer ones use real books top and bottom, but faux books in center. This type takes more work (adhering all pages) and really do fool the eye. A lot of age to the leather, as you can see, and 1 of the 4 cordials is a replacement which fits right in and won't be noticed. The leather into which the fitted glassware rests has a restoration between cups to the right, as if someone did try to get into the old music box. Charming old things, we can never keep these in stock.
