An exquisitely preserved mid-1800s Victorian English double well tea caddy in papier mache, from the most highly valued maker, Jennens & Bettridge. This caddy not only has both well covers and the foiled interior in fine shape, it has the old working key, as well. Hand decorated, this is one of the most beautiful we've had in ages. Mother of pearl knobs on decorated inner well covers and a serpentine form only add to the opulence of this fine old treasure.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, only a tiny bit of gilt decorative surface disrupted by the nearly 2 centuries it's been around. No chips to diminish appeal nor value. Inlays of mother of pearl are all intact, too, and no breaks or restorations at the hinges, which is only rarely ever the case in these old ones. Really a gem, and it is 9.25" x 5.25" and is 4.75" high when closed. Fabulous in all ways, and signed on bottom by the prestigious maker, too. Original working key completes the offering. All you need is a lovely tassel.
