Finally! It's been a long time since I've found a large pair of these fine 19th century Swiss Black Forest carved stands which could be easily made into beautiful lamps. The large ones are far more difficult to locate and we search them out all the time. I have a pair slightly smaller than these made up into accent lamps in my other home, and will add a photo at the end to show what I mean about making them into table lamps. It requires someone with a drill, and only 2 holes drilled, one down the center and one toward the bottom of base in back, to accede the other drilled hole so electrical wiring can be fed up through. A lamp kit is simple to install, and just add your choice of lamp shades. OR, certainly beautiful if you have glass flutes as they would have originally held, or wish to use them for candle holders. The pair are original to one another, elegantly carved birds in opposite orientation as you can see. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout on this incredible pair. Hardly a chip and really no notable damage on any of the 4 birds - fine Animalier anatomical studies. I see a couple of oak leaf tips which have chipped, but in all, these are among the most perfect ones I've ever had. Typically missing wing, tail, beak, and likely the slender top leave fronds which form a deep cup for epergne or candle (or lamp kit). VERY Country French, cabin or lodge decor. Large sturdy base. If I keep these very long, they're going to become accent lamps for my other home. Don't wait too long!
