Unique and very individualistic, this portrait miniature is signed by artist, "Dupré". A bit of speculation by an earlier collector of it being a rather unique miniature portrait by Leon Victor Dupre (1816-1879), who was a listed French artist primarily of landscapes. While an artist has broad freedoms to paint as they will, it may well be a personal little painting taken on in a more love/friendship manner. I say this only to give background and will say, I have researched the works of this landscape artist and something about palette choices, in particular, could hint at the possibility. Something to consider. That all said, there were a lot of Dupré artists over time. And in any case, this painting is particularly appealing for costume and fine portraiture. Measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, dates early 1800s - 1830s. The painting is excellent both in craft and in palette and detail. Larger than most, it has the feel of having been a Grand Tour tourist, drenched in fashion and experiences of maturing to early womanhood. One rarely sees orange in a portrait miniature, but beyond it, the sheer overload of fabrics in this one sets it apart.  Wood frame is in very good condition, as well.
