Exquisite & rare HUGE 23.5" wide antique Victorian to early Edwardian era Swiss Black Forest hand carved expanding or telescoping book rack, absolutely marvelous with foliate accented base and FOUR upright standing Breinz bear figures! WOW! This is the largest of these book racks that we've ever had I'm sure, measuring an immense 23.5" wide when closed and the sides slide out to an amazing 37.5"! The bears in a standing position, some anthropomorphism there surely, each with their fore paws clasping the other. Each side is the same scene but, as is always the case with hand carved pieces, there are subtle differences. An amazing decorative piece and quite rare, both for the size and the fact that it boasts four Breinz bear figures. Don't miss this one, who knows if we'll ever find its rival.
Very good to excellent condition. There are a few small nips but no major flaws, damage or repairs other than a chipped portion at one side of the inner base panel where the side slides in. It has no real effect on the sliding. See pictures for all measurements.
