Fabulous antique Victorian to Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved wood 28.5" wall barometer with lovely little bird figural top and an ornate array of pierced or reticulated vines & foliage! Wonderful decorative accents, these fine old Black Forest barometers always bring an undeniable charm with them. The back panel is solid and appears to be in Linden wood, the most commonly used in Black Forest carvings. The barometer face itself is card and the text is in French, likely a Swiss Alps work. One of several wonderful antique wall barometers that we're listing today and in the weeks ahead, I guess the upcoming change of the weather had me fixated on these aesthetic decorative instruments :). We have a large collection of fabulous old Black Forest carved works so, be sure to browse some while you're with us. Thanks!
Very good condition. A few small chips, the most notable on the tip of the bird's tail. There appears to be a repaired break to the reticulated carving on the right side of the barometer housing, mostly unnoticeable but you can sort of see it from the back. The enamel plaque and thermometer are original but it appears that the mercury inside the thermometer has been drained or it's filled with some other fluid. Everything appears intact and in working order but we've not tested the barometer for accuracy. See pictures for measurements.
