For scale, this (last half) 19th century pen tray is 9.75" long. The full-sized and elegant set of 3 matching desk pieces includes tray, inkwell and a candlestick or candle holder. All are in elaborately engraved dore bronze and all are set with round raised stones of malachite. As you can see, finest quality craftsmanship, the set would have likely also once included a blotter folio and perhaps jeweled corner mounts for a desk pad. That we have 3 of the original matching pieces, however, is superb and rare. They're all generously sized and quite heavy, measurements can be found directly on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, not a single bend or ding, not one piece shows any sign of having been dropped or carelessly handled. The dore bronze is heavy, beautifully brilliant. The engraved design adds to the shimmer and eye-catching quality set, and the settings of beautiful veined malachite are all in place. When I purchased this set, I was told 2 of the stones on candlestick had been replaced and have oil-painted surface. I can't tell which is a replacement and which is the old Russian malachite, actually. We didn't need to polish, as this type will remain bright in the alloy, but I mention this so you'll also be a little careful in cleaning the stones. Isn't it just gorgeous!
