An exceptionally fine portrait miniature of a handsome gentleman who is identified on the backing and dated 1803. Noted it was painted when he was 27 years old, I have not made out the name of the young man but perhaps you can. Still in his original wood oval frame with the appliqué bow top and mat, the old convex cover glass fully intact, he is just a superb little painting. When we can fill a large photo with just the tiny face and it holds together as if it were a full sized portrait, we know the artist is of special note, though most did not sign their work. Likewise, we know the young man is a Noble, and must certainly have a fascinating history. Perhaps your research will give you more of his story. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition, very well treasured these 219 years since it was painted. In pen and ink, the notation on the old paper backing places him in time and at age 27. A name there, if you can decipher it. Frame, convex cover glass and the painting, itself all remain in very fine condition. That face is remarkable in expressiveness, yet in a space only 3/4" from chin to hairline. One of my favorites - collections being disbursed. Don't miss him!
