With handwritten dedication or notation on backside, we know this distinguished young man's last name is Dubois. The writer notes where he was born (difficult to decipher) and that he later died in 1826. The painting is just beautifully done - quite a master work as portrait miniatures go, but our artist has not signed it. Beautifully preserved, though, with a nice wood frame and the original convex cover glass and brass mat. It's interesting to me because I believe it's a young dandy from the c.1795-99 political and fashion youth known as the Incroyables. While he has rather long sideburns which one might key to the 1830s, the notation of his earlier death would suggest the are his version of the 'dog-ear' type of hairdo popular among those youth. Still, against such determination is also that his neck wrap is not quite as exaggerated as one normally expects of the Incroyables. Just look at his face - such a stunning fine painting in such a small space. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type throughout. I really see no flaws to note.
