Fabulous & rare larger antique Victorian to early Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved 11 3/4" double well tea caddy, a marvelous chest with foliate accenting, Animalier style birds sculptural top grouping and wonderful condition! Wouldn't it just be lovely with tea bags inside, on your breakfast table. Don't you agree? Beautiful, most likely late 19th century one here, carved with skill and almost entirely intact even after all this time (we're pretty confident the inner tea well covers are replacements). One of a few truly remarkable and visually appealing old Black Forest boxes that we've recently, all unique in form and size as they're all truly hand-made 'one of a kind' works of art.
Very good condition. As noted, the inner tea well covers/lids are likely later replacements in solid wood with handles/knobs but with a black finish. The key works but is missing a portion of its outer handle shape. There is also an old break and repair to the rear left foot (see pictures) but it stands steady, no wobbles. See pictures for all measurements.
