No French sterling silver flatware set or elegantly set table is complete without the melon knife, and so I know someone out there will be clambering for this wonderful set of early to mid 20th century French sterling silver knives with which to finish their table. All handles are sterling silver, the set complete with the very specialized tip, tines which are specifically for cutting and then bringing your succulent Summer melons (honeydew, etc., etc., ) to one's watering mouth. What could be more fun for your next dinner party than to set this one out - I'll bet not a soul at your table will know what they are. I have seen these called cheese forks, butter forks, shellfish forks - nearly everything but melon, but the French have other forks for those other purposes and this one is for your melon. Aren't they fabulous!  All handles bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" designates them as being .950 silver content (95% pure, higher than the .925 standard for sterling silver). Silversmith marks on the opposite sides are for Tetard Freres, Paris c. 1902-1940. Wonderful, don't miss them!

Very good to excellent condition.  I'm not sure if the blades are brass or plated but they are not sterling on this set (a plus to some in that they're actually more durable than the softer sterling silver).  A few age/darkened spots visible but no real damage or flaws to note.  There is some faint surface scuffing in places, indicative of age and light use.  See pictures for all measurements and weights.
