I've bought lots of these (both singles and pairs) over the years, and most of them we've sold again. I've got a few now that I'm going to use. My plan is to build them into cabinetry renovation in kitchen, and also to have a 4" depth box frame backing made for one that can be wall-mounted as a cabinet in bathroom, mirror back and lined with glass shelves, to use as as upscale medicine cabinet. Might recess the cabinet part into the wall instead. You'll surely come up with great decorator ideas of your own. But in fact, these hang on a wall beautifully just as the fine art and sculpture they are. Here we have a large antique Victorian era Italian or continental hand carved 25 7/8" x about 17" cabinet or furniture door panel PAIR, now fabulous wall hanging decorative plaques with very unique Catholic figures at the centers framed in an ornate seashell accented scrolled carving, working lock sans key and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! I haven't found a key that will work but I'll look through our extras again before sending out. Wouldn't these look lovely with custom made gilt wood frames, or simply hung as is really! We've offered many old Black Forest hunt themed wall plaques over the years, these more Italian or Western European in style and are actually complete cabinet or furniture doors. Each here with a similar mirrored image of a mitre wearing Bishop or Pope bust at the centers, ornate carvings above and below the circular figural 'medallions' and wonderfully done. Possibly one of Pope Julius II perhaps, he commissioned Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling and other timeless art work as I'm sure you know. Both framed in solid old growth European oak (they weigh just under 14 lbs (6.4 kg) together! Fabulous detail, the carvings are mounted on the solid oak panels and have quite a bit of depth to them. The inner panels, with figural carvings, can be removed from the thick oak outer frame if so desired, framed and displayed but they'd also make great additions to a custom piece of furniture or cabinetry OR, simply hung & displayed as they are. A wonderful large pair, don't miss them! Ready-to-hang or you might want to build into your cabinetry; use as a door for a wall cabinet for medicine chest use in a bathroom; or put in a gilt gesso on wood frame to display as the works of art they truly are. They were once doors to a large cabinet or bar and do have the center lock but do not have the lock hardware. Fabulous for a wall ornaments. Actually, the would even look great in any setting where fine architectural salvage pieces might add to the warmth and aesthetic, even modern. These panels date to the 19th century, c. 1830-80s.

Very good condition. Some chipping to the bottom left corner of the left panel. Both have a deep red or burgundy stain on them but that could be stripped if you would prefer the natural wood look. Possibly a tiny chip or so but no larger chips, no breaks or repairs to note. See pictures for measurements.
