Elegant antique 1700s Georgian era hallmarked and acid-tested 18k gold writer's wax seal, cachet or sceau, an etui style case to hold the sealing wax and with a solitary "C" monogram! Just like you'd see nestled in an opulent Palais Royal writing box, this one does bear a tiny hallmark but I've not yet been able to find reference for it. We have tested it and it is solid gold, 18k. An elegant little bit that's as much a piece of desk top jewelry as it is function. The matrix is engraved and a stick of sealing wax would have been kept inside! A beautiful, elegant old piece, even with the flaws.
Good condition, very good age and materials considered. I've show in from every angle so you can see it clearly, there is some denting around the middle as if pinched too tightly in the hand and two tiny/thin holes as a result. I was planning on having a jeweler repair it but just haven't gotten around to it. Well worth that effort though! See pictures for measurements (I'll add the weight as quickly as possible).
