Large in size compared to typical cigarette box, and more likely an early cheroot or cigar serving case, early to mid-1800s. Hand painted miniature oil painting, a charming cabin home set in beautiful landscape, 2 people and 2 goats. Such a fine little work of art, and pristine within its mount. The royal blue is thick enamel, hand painting with accents in gold enamel. The interior is fully intact, red paper. Hinge, clasp and mounting in perfect condition, creating an overall beauty. One would be tempted to use it for an evening bag, clutch purse. I would! Full measurements noted on photos and all angles of view for your review.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. No loss or damage at all to the wonderful miniature oil painting, slight losses to the blue enamel outer case but nothing major. Frame, hinge and clasp all in fine condition and the interior, red paper, seems as if it was kept and not used. No odor. Beautifully preserved.
