Rare antique French? hallmarked sterling silver wine funnel, used for filling decanters or claret jugs! A must have in the wine cellar or opulently appointed bar, these were used quite regularly in refilling decanters or claret jugs and it's rare that we find one this large and heavy. Bearing only small oval swan hallmarks, we believe it to be French but said sterling pieces normally bear a Michel-Ange or Minerva hallmark also. Not all that uncommon in smaller sterling pieces to have fewer hallmarks, often that would have been the case in a custom commissioned piece. In any event, a rare "must have" in any bar ensemble. Grouped and displayed with other wine related sterling pieces, a few small wine tasting cups or "tastevin" perhaps. Wonderful, don't miss it!
Very good condition. There is a small dimple, no other damage that I can see. See pictures for all measurements and weight.
