Still housed in the original domed leather covered case fitted perfectly to the form of the brooch/pendant and earrings you see here, this set is in excellent condition. The set or 'parure' is in 10k & 12k yellow gold (earring backs test at and are marked 9k) and is set with fine old mine cut diamonds to represent the stars in the Heaven to which someone's dearly departed might be remembered among. The set would have been a mourning jewelry or 'sentimental' jewelry set, true, but it survives with glass-covered locket back fully intact and ready to now house a favorite small photo or your own family memento of whatever nature you choose. I love these with grains of sand and tiny shells within from our favorite or most memorable beach trips, actually (something we've also done with old gold pocket watch cases with unrepairable watch mechanisms - a great way to remember your honeymoon, brides!). The set seems not to have been worn, and no lock of hair resides within, which would have been the Victorian tradition.
Very good to excellent condition, both jewelry and the fitted case which is original to the set and will stay. The case is, itself, a fine antique and has value of $100 to $150, remember. A stunning set you can wear as brooch or pendant with the matching earrings - versatile and elegant memento set, c. 1860.
