Antique mid-Victorian era bug brooch, a fly or bee set in 16k yellow gold brooch. Diamonds, pearls and ruby (or possibly garnet - untested but usually ruby in this quality, and these have more the look of rubies than garnets, as well). Brooch is 1 7/8" long. Tie pin or brooch, you choose. I've pulled out the stashes of antique jewelry and will be working at getting it all listed in weeks ahead. Do come back and pick your favorites. SO many treasures! Thank you for following us, and for your many years of business. We love what we do!
Very good condition for age and type. All the gems are there. Looks like it might have had a little pair of antennae, and only one shows, perhaps not complete. Shown from sides s you can view the way the body is made. Acid tested at 16k gold, yellow in color. These old ones are SO rare to find. I've had this one for 20 years. It dates midi-Victorian, c.1850-60s.
