Elegant & rare vintage 64pc Copelands Spode China set including 12pc each in dinner plates, luncheon or entremet & dessert plates, tea cups & saucers and four serving pieces with blue & gold "Chandellor" pattern borders! Circa 1940s we think, this set is both expansive and elegant with those beautiful, and always popular, blue & gold enamel accented rims. Spode is an English brand of pottery and homewares produced by the company of the same name, which is based in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Spode was founded by Josiah Spode (1733–1797) in 1770, and was responsible for perfecting two extremely important techniques that were crucial to the worldwide success of the English pottery industry in the century to follow. I've read just a bit on the pattern and a few sites declaring that the gold is actually 22k gold rather than just an enamel. We haven't tested them but may, if so we'll add that info. A popular pattern, some made for Tiffany & Company, this set made for W.H. Plummer & Co. Ltd. of New York. A comprehensive set, it includes:
Twelve 10.75" Dinner Plates
Twelve 7 3/4" Luncheon Plates
Twelve 6" Dessert Plates
Twelve teacups & saucers
Creamer & Covered Sugar
Covered Tureen
Serving Tray
Excellent condition. I see no chips, no crazing or damage to note on any of the pieces! Quite amazing really. The tray has what looks like a newer Spode marking and is likely a later addition. See pictures for all measurements.
