The oil painting is accomplished on panel rather than canvas, which means it is just perfect and has no holes, damage, lost paint. Signed in lower right corner, it is satisfying and beautiful, and reminds me of my times in Switzerland's countryside. But it's the masterpiece frame it's in that captured my heart. It is simply stunning! I won't lie - I'm tempted to fill it with a beveled mirror and hang it above the mantel in my other home, which is accented with more Black Forest carvings than this one. Not that I don't like the painting - just that I simply love the frame. Has such a French feel to it, and not the typical work we think of as "Black Forest", and so transcends. I've tried to show it to you fully, but this one, you really do want to see it in hand, at home, at its full 36.5" x 28.5".
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I've just taken delivery from France, and I worried it would arrive all broken. But not a single nip nor chip in transit. We promise to do the same for you. That's not to say there are not a couple of tips of the carving nipped. I've shown you, though, how close to perfect it is. Look at the photos. From behind, you can see a couple tips, but you won't see them when it's hung. No, it really can't be hung vertical. The frame is carved with cartouche up top, and ornament below, and it is oriented for horizontal view. You see what I mean. A splendid rare find! All measurements are noted on the photos.
