It's rare to find these late 1700s portraits, and we're thrilled to offer this one, a gentleman in silk embroidered vest and brown striped topcoat, his hair in the 1770s style and a bright mysterious Mona Lisa-like smile. Dimpled chin, smiling handsome eyes. A spectacular subject. If only we had his story to go along with his likeness, so adeptly captured here in this tiny painting. The painting is in gauche and remains very nicely preserved as you can see. Original frame is just 3" in diameter and the painting is only about 2" diameter, yet we can enlarge it to full screen and it still is exquisite. A fine fine painting!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, protected these 250 years under the original cover glass in this original frame. Interesting wooden mount and pressed metal with a gold layer or "vermeil" on it. Hanging loop remains intact up top and he's ready to hang. I love my collections of portraits and find them endlessly interesting and beautiful. I suggest this one for the more sophisticated collection, or as a portrait for one of you Bru doll collectors who furnish little homes for your dolls - doll house art!
