One of a pair of small portraits we bought from the same French estate some time ago, we're offering them separately. The painting is English in origin, and bears some readable text n that stamp remaining on the backside (see photos) noting Chas Thomas, framer. This one is a beautiful young woman with dark hair and blue eyes, A hat and veil with elegant pearls, fine clothing and a superb 1/2 torso composition that is both brilliant and calming. The old frame dates beautifully, also, to c.1830-60, seems to us to have been the old original.
Very good to excellent condition. The painting is done in gouache on card. The measurements are all noted on our photos, but outer frame measures 9" tall, 8" wide and 1.25" in depth. Lots of gesso appliqué, nearly all fully intact (one upper corner missing a bit at the outer corner). A little craquele visible. Nothing missing. Photos show it well.
