Fabulous & rare antique vintage French "leather bound books" liqueur or liquor box, cave a liqueur or tantalus with gold embossed crown & fleur-de-lis medallion on top, two gold accented decanters & five shot sized cups or glasses inside and working music box! A sweet little desktop or side table book stack opens to reveal itself as a liqueur caddy. This is a vintage set, not quite as old as the previous few we've been lucky to find and offer. All five books are antique leather bound looking with, it appears, individual leaves or pages on the top and bottom books. We've had a number of these over the years. Some visible wear to the leather edges of the volumes but it adds to the overall visual appeal in my opinion. The gilt embossed leather bindings have titles such as "Histoire De L'Eglise", Richepin's "Miarka", Moliere's "Comedies" and what appears to read "Dictionnaire De Theologie". The original Swiss Thorens music box in the base plays a familiar tune though I can't seem to remember the name of the song. A wonderful one and guaranteed to please.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. There are no flaws to the glass that I can see. The outer cave, caddy, is very appealing but does have a few edge wears and surface marks, etc.. The original brass hinge is intact and undamaged. Measurements are noted on the photos but it is 9" x 6" at base, and 6 1/4" tall, closed. Love these on a side table.
