Cutest fun "grandma's house" item ever! These old warmer plates for children's meals run vintage to antique. This one is, I think, more vintage than antique and we've noted it as such. The old silver plated metal is still quite lovely, and there are no flaws on the porcelain plate which ha delightful litho transfers in theme of childhood. The little European clown and his dog large and at center. The way these worked was to fill the metal dish bottom with hot water, then place the food on the plate to be kept warmed by the heat from the water within. This one does hold water, still, and will be that one special memory your grandkids might have should you decide it's for you, and for them. I don't normally buy things like this, but this one was just too cute to pass by.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I'd put it mid-century modern era, c.1930-60. There is a little light tarnish I didn't even polish off before our photographer clicked his work (sorry), and under that silver is a while metal base, more visible on that click of the signature of the maker, WMF, Germany. A few surface scales on bottom visible in our images. Cap fits tightly, and it holds water just fine, still. The dish has an 8" diameter, side handles extent that measurement a bit as does the spout of the bowl.
