A lovely revival of fans of 100 years earlier, this elegant beauty would date c.1900-1910 and has a delicate monture of pale or boiled horn with a green paste gem, with bone ribs. The leaf is semitransparent mesh or gauze which has a most elaborate and diversified embroidered decoration of sequins, sparkles. It has been well preserved in the original box, which has the vendor/maker's etiquette on bottom, "Mason Marchais, C. Carde, St, Rue Ste-Catherine, 3, BORDEAUX". Full measurements are noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, well over 100 years and I will point out that one slender bone rib is missing (marked in our photos for your review), though the fan displays beautifully, one might want to have a rib restoration done due to the transparency of the gauze. The front leaf is quite superb, and the gauze on the backside shows more tatter and loss (see images). No breaks or restorations to the old boiled horn guards and monture. Beautiful old thing!
