Elegant antique French Napoleon III or Victorian era 10 1/8" wide humidor style casket, a rosewood or walnut & brass inlay box with inlaid 'Cigares & Tabac", original fitted interior and working lock with key! As Napoleon III in style as they come, the exterior is veneered in rosewood or walnut with a faintly visible ebonized finish, brass strip or sting inlays on the front and lid and "Cigares & Tabac" (Cigars & Tobacco) brass inlay in the top center. Unlock it with a working old skeleton key and inside it is divided into two tin foil lined compartments. The left side simply with a lid as you would see with a tea caddy, the right side with a rosewood panel cut with holes to hold cigars in an upright position. Not actually a humidor as there is no moisture source but the foil lining would have served to preserve the moisture level of the tobacco until used. An elegant old French box and a simply fabulous decorative accent, whether or not you're a tobacco enthusiast.
Good to very good condition. There is a slight bit of 'lifting' to the brass strip inlay in the lid at the curved corners (not actually out though, just lifting and might be able to be pressed back down into the veneer grooves. There is some veneer missing and a split at the bottom of the back panel of the box, where the veneer overlapped the wooden bottom to the box. Some loss of the inner foil lining on the bottom of the compartments and a bit on the sides. Working lock & key, as noted. See pictures for all measurements.
