An elegant gaming chest from the Napoleon III to Belle Epoque era and obviously by quality, from a notable maker, too. Even though the lock plate is unmarked on this one, the quality is all there. That elevates both the history and the value of this elegant box and set, of course, as would it if it bore the name TAHAN, Vervelle, Paul Sormani. Those were perhaps the 4 finest names in such opulent boxes and goods, each attaining highest honors at Expos and each makers to Kings, Emperors, the elite of the era. One can only guess who might have once enjoyed gaming with this set. If only it would tell us its story. We have no provenance to speak of. The set is one we imported from Paris years ago, however. Full of thick, heavy mother of pearl gaming chips and more (note, the cards shown in the images are not included). The box is, I believe, in rosewood veneers.  The gaming chips (jetons) are likely all the old originals though one can never tell. I have measured and counted them, all noted on one of the last pictures.

Very good condition throughout. A few "dips" in the thin brass string inlay here and there, showing as darkened or slightly bent spots but I see nothing missing.  The inside still has all five of the original removable inner trays for the gaming chips.  All hardware original and intace, including the lock, but we don't have a key.  See images for all measurements.
