With a charming and very French needlepoint, florals, ribbons, a harp and bird against a claret red background, this excellently preserved large plaque is entirely hand carved in wood stained a walnut hue. Not a bit of loss to that shell-crested hand carved frame, nor the supports, but I do believe the round bar is added later, perhaps replacing one that broke. The bar has been painted black, seems very sturdy. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent for age and type, c.1850-190. I find no chips or breaks in the carved wood. As noted above, it seems to me the bar on the rack is a replacement, as it is painted black. Needlepoint is in very good condition, very slight disruption to some of the red wool yarn stitches, which can be seen as a roughness to the stitch, not really missing. The motif is quite freeform, likely drawn initially by the seamstress, and the stitches are nicely done, uniform. All wool. No odors. Old hardware still on back, just awaiting your hanging where you'll enjoy it - kitchen or bathroom.
