Jennens & Bettridge, London, stands as the finest production firm for Victorian era papier mache objects. Some pieces bear their signature incised and others do not, but this is confirmed J&B. Wonderful condition without chips, inlays of mother of pearl and over-painted. Two 2 3/8" tall and 1 1/2" square cut crystal inkwells, damage-free. I don't think they are the original since they're small in the openings. Might have had felt liner which would explain loose fit. Just note they might not be original. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type, c.1850s, the desk tray and pen & inkwell holder is in remarkably damage-free condition. The 2 undamaged inkwells might not be original, as noted, as they are small for the 2 openings. There would have been a cover for the center compartment which would have held pen nibs, sealing wax. Pen tray, plenty of room to show off your pen collection. I see no losses to the inlays of mother of pearl. Some painted ornamentation lost to time. Typical surface crazing. Photos show all angles.
