Isn't she a true beauty! Stylish late 1700s to earliest 1800s young woman in gown and fine jewelry, her blond hair in curls to frame her blue eyes. I do not think this is her original frame, but at some point she has been displayed in an equally fine antique English shadow box frame. The frame would bring $400 range all on its own, so as inclusion with the superb portrait, you can see why she's been one of my favorites. I have collected portrait miniatures for decades, and have truly had the very best of them over time - museum quality. You can see at one time the backside of the painting had wax seals which have been removed. This would typically be done only on royal subjects of importance. Perhaps you recognize her? Where you think might perhaps be a name, it is written, 'painted on ivory', and I find no signature on the painting. Full measurements noted on photos.

Very good to excellent, no paint loss, no warp to the rather thick gauge wafer, which is backed by paper and bearing remnants of wax seals. Taken from its original frame, who knows when or why, perhaps just to elevate her to a more important British early 1800s shadow box frame with deep velvet mat, brass aperture frame and an inner beveled gold card mat, as shown. Displays very well. I see little by way of flaw on frame or painting.

IMPORTANT NOTE regarding antique tortoise shell or ivory: We are great supporters of protection for endangered species in our modern world. We never buy or sell anything 100 years or newer; we donate to anti-poaching organizations; we don't hunt; we conserve in ways that impact global warming (we're totally solar at home), knowing those measures also protect the animals in the wild today. We also recognize the vast cultural history we preserve with our care and reverence for these antique objects, and agree with CITES that objects over 100 years of age have nothing whatsoever to do with species depletion in our current world.

Our offering exceeds the age limitation of "more than 100 years of age", and is well within the exemption for CITES regulation. If imported, met the CITES regulation. This item will be handled and shipped from our Utah business, and is not available for shipment internationally, nor within the USA to California, NY, Nevada, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington if it contains ivory, sorry.
