I've bought lots of these over the years, and most of them we've sold again. I've got a few now that I'm going to use. My plan is to build them into cabinetry renovation in kitchen, and also to have a 4" depth box frame backing made for one that can be wall-mounted as a cabinet in bathroom, mirror back and lined with glass shelves, to use as as upscale medicine cabinet. Might recess the cabinet part into the wall instead. You'll surely come up with great decorator ideas of your own. But in fact, these hang on a wall beautifully just as the fine art and sculpture they are. Heavy old forest growth wood, 25.5" x 25" x 1,75" and a carving depth of about 2.5" in deep bas relief: a figural carved face surrounded in an elaborate neo-renaissance setting. This one is a stunning old 19th century French carved neo-Classical or Renaissance revival plaque in ready-to-hang or you might want to build into your cabinetry; use as a door for a wall cabinet for medicine chest use in a bathroom; or put in a frame to display as the work of art it truly is. It was once a door to a large cabinet or bar, and does have the lock hardware but balanced by its repeat on the other side, so looks like trim, really. Fruit bowls, acanthus, shells and pillar motif surround the figure, just like the grotesques in the finest Renaissance Palaces of Florence, Italy. Photos tell all. If there's a chip, I haven't yet located it so look closely. Fabulous for a wall ornament in a Country French kitchen or den. Actually, it would even look great in any setting where fine architectural salvage pieces might add to the warmth and aesthetic, even modern. This panel dates 19th century, c. 1830-80s.

Very good to excellent condition, I see no chips at all, no cracks. Beautifully carved! The old hardware is still mounted. One might wish to remove it and fill holes, but I rather like it with the hardware still on. The carving on this plaque is truly magnificent! A personal favorite.
