One of my favorite clocks, this one does run and is spectacularly beautiful as you see it. The cover for the face is nicely hinged and swings away evenly and smoothly so you can wind both the mechanism and the chimes on the face. The clock face shows it to be a Rouard Custom clock, and the maker marks are visible on the clock's mechanism from the back with the bell removed (see images). The impossibly fine condition of this one is its finest point. Not a chip anywhere on that beautiful old thing. Elegant veneer entirely in place and without cracks or loss. Likewise, the kiln-fired face is without damage, and displays Roman numerals and also notes the minutes. Hands move smoothly. We don’t run the clocks except to wind enough to be certain they do run. For me, it’s a decorative thing and the ticking and bell would keep me awake. But while you may  want a clean and oil and adjustment upon receiving it (typically, you need adjustment after any shipment) I think you'™ll find this one will thrill even those who love the tick and dingle.  Isn't it a gorgeous old thing. A hair under 14" tall, 5 3/4" width, and clock face of 3.5", it is a wonderful size, too. At base, it measures 6 1/4" x 4 1/2" and the case is 4" in depth.

No chips to the veneer, no loss to the cast appliques, legs, etc., and not a bit of loss to that wonderful kiln-fired enamel face, either. Compete to the key and bell, it does run but we don'™t run the clocks except to affirm they do run. I haven’t taken it apart beyond the photos you see, and do not know if it keeps perfect time or if it needs a clean. Looks clean. The clockworks is maker-marked and we’ve shown that medallion for your review.  Dates to c.1860s and is French, of course. Beautiful reddish color to the shell.
