A very fine early Victorian era English tea caddy, double well and complete, in fine serpentine papier mache inlaid with mother of pearl. Rare to find one of this age and with the extended pad feet which is not broken at corners or feet. Not only is this one in beautiful display condition, it still also has both of the original covers for the 2 tea compartments within. Each of those have their original carved mother of pearl handles. There remains remnants of the interior foil, as well. One would expect it to be marked with an incised "Jennens & Bettridge" on the bottom, but it is not. There is a lock, but we do not have the working key at listing time, plus the lock plate on inner lid is also missing (see photos). While you can't lock it, you could certainly put it to use, even if just to serve up variety of tea packets. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout, age and type considered. It's rare to find these old ones (170 years old by now) which still has some of the oil painting on the mother of pearl inlays. While much of it is worn off the top from dusting it, look at the front. Beautifully hand painted and most of it remains fully intact. We've shown it from all sides. I don't see any pearl inlays missing. There are no breaks or chips, but I can see a crack which has had stablizing restoration - it's there on back near one hinge. Additionally, as mentioned above, the top lock plate is missing in lid, and there is not a key. Displays beautifully!
