Doll collectors, attention! Just in from France comes this 19th century hand crafted miniature after the sedan 'chair' carriages of the 1700s. This miniature is doll-sized at 13.5" tall, and comes complete with silk padded cushions inside. Silk embroidery on silk fabric, from the photos of the back, you can see the original and unfaded original color, which must have been protected from the light which has muted a bit the vibrant colors. Photos show it from all angles of view. It has age, and is just elegant as a small display vitrine (all 3 glass panels fully intact), or for your antique dolls, Bru and similar. I've included a panel of images to show how these transported Nobles and Royals. My favorites among the real ones I've found in museums are those elaborately decorated in the Vernis Martin layered paint and varnish method - favorites of Marie-Antoinette. This one does not have the long carrying poles, though they'd be very simple to have cut from craft store oak panels, wouldn't they. Some people have the real ones as a furniture item in their homes. I've always wanted a real one. We've had a variety of the miniatures, and this is about the prettiest one ever. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. This is a Victorian or Napoleon III era miniature or doll's sedan chair, c.1850-70s. The perfectly shaped sedan body is entirely covered in silk, inside and out - vibrant yellow interior and a hot pink original silk color for the exterior. Entirely hand embroidered in silk, flowers and leaves, the back side wasn't exposed to sunlight, apparently, though it's possible it was made in contrasts. French passementerie braid lines all the seams, and it's all been hand sewn, as well. A working door handle, and holders for the missing long wooden pieces which would be lifted to shoulder height in actual use, at least 4 carriage transporters necessary to keep 1 Noble from having to walk. There are very small spots of tiny age shreds to the silk, not enough to harm its value or charm - just an issue of age. Rare in this size, they make charming vitrines to hold your other collections, too.
