Delightful antique French Gien marked 2pc 7 3/4" cabinet plate set, "Exposition Universelle 1878" souvenirs with beautiful blue & white ribbon & floral garland borders and delightful figural center scenes with titles or inscriptions! Part of a more extensive numbered series, this pair is numbered 4 & 12 and are entitled "Angleterre" and "Amerique Du Sud" or, roughly translated, "England" and "South America". Charming scenes, each with an appropriately dressed man & woman and surroundings! Both plates have black maker marks on the back, along with "6K" die stamped marks, that read "Faiencerie De Gien, Medailles d'Or Diplomes D'Honneur". This is one pair, we'll be listing other small incomplete sets of similar souvenir cabinet plates this week so be sure to browse some while you're with us. They're fabulous grouped and displayed, whether in a curio cabinet, hutch or even simply wall hung. Wonderful!
Very good condition. There is one small "rub" or surface scuff to the rim of one plate. Possibly a tiny edge nip or two but no larger chips, no cracks or other damage to note. Each has an 7 3/4" diameter.
