Fabulous & rare antique French Napoleon III era perfume or scent caddy, necessaire - a glorious box with serpentine shaped sides, ornate boulle top or lid and four scents nestled inside with eglomise style hand painted Parisian souvenir scenes! A stunning box, nice larger size and the boulle work on the lid is as near pristine as we could hope for. Just in from France and, well, wow! Gorgeous! No maker marks but I'd not be surprised if it was a Tahan or Vervelle piece given the style and quality. The hand painted eglomise style tops of the perfume bottles feature the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, the Place Vendome (Bastille) and the Eglise de la Madeleine (Madeleine Church). An amazing box, don't miss it!
Very good condition. One slight lift to a brass strip on the left side of the boulle top. Some wear to the ebonized finish in areas around the brass inlay, from polishing over the years surely, and there is a small veneer imperfection on the left side. No damage to any of the four bottles, only one with the original stopper though. Working lock and old skeleton key. See pictures for all measurements.
