Absolutely loaded with watercolor bricks, and with 4 original porcelain water/mixing pots, this beautiful 19th century French watercolor box just arrived from France. It's in fine form throughout, still has working lock and key. The lift-out tray has double the usual number of bricks, as you can see. Oddly, when it arrived from France we noticed the bricks seems to be glued or stuck in place. I have not tried to pry any loose, since one can easily use the set as it is, and it displays beautifully. Brass stringing against lovely old mahogany, and a cartouche of bright brass which has yet to be monogrammed. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, c.1890-1930 would be my best guesstimate on age. You can make out the embossed makers of the paint bricks in our enlarged photos, all French makers and a variety. Box is well preserved, no warp. I see a few woodworm holes on interior lift-out tray. No breaks or chips to the 4 hard paste porcelain pots. A very nice set, indeed!
