A fabulous devotional 'souvenir' dating to the Napoleon III era of French history, or slightly before (c.1850-70s), this brass wire and ormolu stand would have been very special to a Christian worshiper, likely Catholic in its time and place, and perhaps a gift given a child upon confirmation. Beautiful as it is closed, it opens the side hinged doors to reveal a silver and mother of pearl crucifix. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I can see that the backing of what would have originally have been padded silk has been replaced with a newer but vintage passionate red which sets off the devotional as would have the original. Other than that, I see no damage and no flaws to note at all. Very nicely preserved and the pearl is some of the most beautiful and colorful I've ever seen. Lighting changes it. A really beautiful little stand! I have not polished the brass, so it does have an old patina, but would have originally been bright and almost gold in finish. One can certainly opt to polish again to that original state.
