Last half 1800s, this artist who has signed only with initials right of shoulder, has captured a Northern European gentleman in such grand detail, we can count the reddish-blond hairs of his head. Ruddy cheeks and bluest eyes, his expanding middle-aged girth pulling at the buttons of his yellow silk vest. An open tuxedo, bow tie, he is at once distinguished and commanding.  The wafer is not large, yet the presence of this painting is expansive, isn't it. A personal favorite, not least for the elegance of it. I wish I knew the artist.  I had found this superb little painting in Germany.  Full measurements are noted on the photos. His face is just 1 1/2", chin to top of his head. I'd date him c.1880-1915

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The miniature is flawless! It is matted simply, and framed in a little wood frame with gesso and lemon-gilt surface. There are a couple of nicks, and some loss to the lemon-gilt finish, enough to add age and charm. He's a personal favorite, obviously was an important and wealthy man in his time. Somehow, it would be fitting if we were to learn he went down with the Titanic.
