Fantastic, large 28 3/4" tall antique Victorian or Napoleon III era French or Swiss hand carved wall mirror, a majestic solid walnut frame with foliage, vines and lovely little bird figure over its egg filled nest!  What a magnificent piece!  Heavy solid walnut with a warm aged finish or patina, the style etc. is a bit more French but that top figural grouping is definitely in the Black Forest style.  Expert detail, wonderful condition with a nod to the few small nips and segments of pierced or reticulated vines.  Also note the carved monogram at the bottom, "EM" or "ME" depending on how you look at it.  I like to think that it's ME, that would work for all of us, right :).  I'm just sure that this would originally have had either a thick old beveled mirror in it or, perhaps, a deeply convex or domed glass showing off some treasure beneath.  The inside of the aperture or rabbet has a slight inward angle (rather than flat) so either of those could have been possible.  Found in France with just the frame and original wood back so we had a flat mirror cut for it and installed.  Gorgeous, you'll love it as much as we do!

Very good condition.  As noted, the mirror is a new replacement and, due to the angled rabbet, the installer added a braided or twisted black rope piping just inside the lip.  Also noted are the few missing segments of vine and a few chips to wing and leaf tips.  See pictures for all measurements.
