As miniatures go, this one is quite large and very impressive.  A 3/4 pose interior, relaxed pose which was the most popular in this era. The artist has signed and dated it, so we know it was painted in 1803. Bernier is our artist. There was in that time a young explorer and astronomer, who died quite young, just 24, in 1803. He was interested in the art world, and his portrait was done by none other than Jean-August-Dominique INGRES, and perhaps he was, himself, a bit of an artist and tried his hand here. If so, the BERNIER could possibly be that young man, capturing his beautiful bride or lover. That Bernier is Pierre-François Bernier (1779-1803). I can find no listed artist with this name, so perhaps?  The painting is charming, a beautiful and adept capture of this pretty woman and her delicate graceful hands, her period clothing.  The measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent, with a single flaw notable and marked - a small hairline/age crack ascending from bottom right corner of the wafer, and rising about 1 inch. I've marked it for your review. The rest is just excellent for age and time, and for the quite large wafer to begin with. She displays so beautifully! Slightly convex cover glass, a likely gold-foil fronted mat of weight, and that outer wooden frame, all quite appealing.
