I found at auction 3 miniature portraits which provenance stated they were from the personal collection of French author, Victor Hugo. This is one. No other information came with it as to ID or artist - just that it had been from his estate. Unknown if it might have been a relative or just a painting that appealed to the famed author of "Les Misérables" "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and etc.. I'm not an expert in military uniforms, but I think it's a Napoleonic era officer, the epaulette at shoulder. Perhaps one of you is an expert in uniforms and can email me with more information to add. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, 200 or more years of age, and of special interest. A simple frame, not unlike all of the soldiers in the Museum of the History of France, Marais, Paris. Photos show it well. No artist signature nor ID.
