An exceptionally nice antique English sterling and faux shell-cased travel clock (Swiss made movement) with maker mark: CS star FS (Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings -Frank- Shepherd, London) whose mark was first registered in 1893. The date mark on the travel clock tells us this case was made in 1904. It is a stem-wound mechanism and all feels very firm and excellent in the movement as you wind it. The clock is keeping excellent time. It does not appear that anything is missing at all, and yet it is curiously without any stand. I suppose it was made to either attach into a travel case (my first and best guess) or simply meant to lie on the bedside table or desktop. Beautiful to look at, and in only a few short years, fully antique.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Working and keeping time, very solid feel to the wind and movement. Not a chip or nip on that beveled original cover glass, and a highly polished brass fitting holding it, which turns and dismounts to reveal the clock face, and also this is the way the clock is released from case (back comes loose when the brass and cover glass fitting is removed) though I didn't take off the winding crown in order to fully remove it or examine it further. Needless to say, it's working very well and I do not want to dislodge something and change that with my lack of knowledge on how the stem comes apart. A superb item - one more of our 'make your own Grand Tour travel opulent' type of items.

IMPORTANT NOTE regarding antique tortoise shell or ivory: We are great supporters of protection for endangered species in our modern world. We never buy or sell anything 100 years or newer; we donate to anti-poaching organizations; we don't hunt; we conserve in ways that impact global warming (we're totally solar at home), knowing those measures also protect the animals in the wild today. We also recognize the vast cultural history we preserve with our care and reverence for these antique objects, and agree with CITES that objects over 100 years of age have nothing whatsoever to do with species depletion in our current world.

Our offering exceeds the age limitation of "more than 100 years of age", and is well within the exemption for CITES regulation. If imported, met the CITES regulation. This item will be handled and shipped from our Utah business, and is not available for shipment internationally, nor within the USA to California, NY, Nevada, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington if it contains ivory, sorry. Please see our small print for more details. We do hold a valid USFWS license, as well, for import/export, but additional time is required for export, and we are not exporting at this time.
