Typically we think of these silk velvet cases as English Victorian, but this one has a Brevete printed mark inside, which would identify it as French. The fashion and features of the handsome young man hints, though, at likely English heritage. I find no signature and no identity. Just as you see him. Purchased ages ago from "a gentleman's collection",   Measurements in full on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the portrait is undamaged, has a few dots of dust under the cover glass, which I did not remove, and dust shows up much more with the photography lights, so my apology. The cover glass on a lot of these old ones is very thin, and I worry about breaking it by removing the painting from its mount. It is nicely protected in a mount which has its original velvet case. Photos show all. Hinge and clasp in fine working order, as well. The old silk velvet covered wood case is without warp or damage other than the typical loss of some of the nap from the velvet, particularly at folds/edges, as shown.
