One of the most stunning little paintings, portraits ever, the face is just 1/2" from chin to hairline, yet is a thrill of detail and personality. Distinguished and certainly a man of means and importance, we do not have his ID, and while he is a work of art, there is not a visible artist's signature. The painting is covered with a thick convex polished cover in rock crystal, which along with the 18k gold and 16k gold backing, give it a hefty 16.54 grams total weight. Very good to excellent condition for age and type, not a flaw to note, really. It's been treasured, as there are no scratches on the rock crystal convex cover, and few on the 18k gold body of the pendant locket, nor the 16k gold backing. No disturbance at all to the painting, no chips nor cracks, hairlines. A museum quality exceptional piece of history. Wear it as jewelry, the bale is large enough for a multiple strand necklace of seed pearls, which would be perfect for it. The opening will allow a 3.5 mm pearl or chain to pass through easily, possibly 4mm.
